Antique Sindh hand-embroidered cushion cover
A truly remarkable and rare antique Sindh and Phulkari hand-embroidered cushion cover from the Swat valley where both sides are each as beautiful as the other.
One side features exquisite abstract Sindh floral embroidery in silk floss in cerise, fuschia and marigold with purple and yellow outlining. The second side is Phulkari - ‘flower work’ - hand embroidery in silk floss in vibrant greens, pinks, blues and yellows. It also has a gorgeous border of pink and green pom-poms sewn with tiny gold coins. The cushion cover’s base fabric is hand-spun, hand-woven cotton khaddar.
Made in West Punjab, probably pre-Partition, a section of the border is missing, otherwise the cushion cover is in excellent condition. This is the most unusual and unique piece of textile we have found.
Cushion padding not included.
Dimensions: 41 cm x 77.5 cm
